Robert Mancini B.A.Sc., P.Eng. president of R. Mancini and Associates Ltd., is registered professional mechanical engineer in the Province of Ontario. He started his career in the industrial refrigeration sector.
His field of practice has been in the design of building energy systems. In the early 1980’s he turned his attention to a system which became popular in Sweden in the early 1970’s geothermal heat pump systems. The driving force being the oil crisis of 1973 and a Swedish government initiative to displace imported oil.
The firm which he founded in 1984 “Mancini, Saldan Ltd.” began designing Geothermal Heat Pump Systems (Geo) aimed at commercial, Institutional and Residential systems. There were no design guides, Mr. Mancini had to develop the application.
Since those days, he has designed hundreds of highly efficient geo systems, in fact three decades later these Geo buildings would meet current criteria for high efficiency buildings. His geo projects are practically all-over North America as well as one in China. He has provided design consultation for projects as far away as Australia and South Africa.
Many people have visited our projects, from the U.S., China, Europe and South Africa. Some of our projects have been featured in IGSHPA teleconferences and publications of the Washington based Geothermal Heat Pump Consortium.
He has served on the CSA Geo technical committee that developed the only geothermal standard (since 1991). Now a bi-national standard known as ANSI/CSA/IGSPHA 448-16 “Design and Installation of Earth Source Heat Pump Systems for Commercial and Residential Buildings”.
Starting in 2012, Robert has directed his firm towards the design of Net Zero Energy and Net Zero Carbon buildings. Three NZC buildings have been designed since.
RMA will continue its work to decabonize building energy systems, work which began in the early 1990s.
